A DAY IN THE GARDEN 2024: Garden to table – Planting and Harvesting Together

Join the Guelph-Wellington Master Gardeners at our annual conference on Sunday, February 25th, 2024. This year’s theme is Planting and Harvesting Together.

 

Early bird pricing ends January 31st. Ticket sales end Feb 15th.

 

FRESH FOOD: HOW AND NOW!

Renowned experts will kick off the conference by exploring the critical link between local gardens, food security, and community wellbeing. Gain insights, knowledge, and valuable community networking oppurtunities while learning about the impact of sustainable gardening practices – ensuring a resilient and secure food supply for all.

SPEAKERS: We have three incredible speakers lined up:

Steven Biggs – Horticulturist, college instructor, broadcaster, speaker, and author.

Edible Garden Makeover: Incorporating edible crops into the landscape to create beautiful, edible landscapes with a long and varied harvest.

Amy Bowen – PhD. Director, Consumer Insights. Vineland Research Station

Defining sustainability: How does it relate to food production and why does it matter?Considerations for minimizing waste in horticultural production.

Mike Smith – Farm Coordinator, The University of Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming

Invaluable insights on planning and nurturing a thriving community garden. In this engaging talk, discover the key principles, practical tips, and community-driven strategies that lay the foundation for a successful and sustainable community garden.

VENDORS: A variety of vendors selling garden-related wares! Plants, woodworking, seeds, garden art, and more – most vendors accept cards but bring cash just in case.

DEMONSTRATIONS: During the lunch break, we will have demonstrations by Master Gardeners relating to the talks above.

FOOD: Catered breakfast and lunch. Vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Please notify us of any allergies when purchasing your ticket via the notes section or by emailing gwmastergardeners@gmail.com. Water, tea, and coffee will also be provided.

PARKING: Free parking adjacent to building.

ACCESSIBILITY: The entire venue – including the parking lot and washrooms – is fully accessible to people using mobilty aids. Please notify us if you have any accommodation needs.

REFUNDS: Tickets are non-refundable, but if you can’t make the event, tickets are transferable to your friends or family.
